CYBER ESSENTIALS PLUS CERTIFICATION

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to announce the renewal of our CYBER ESSENTIALS PLUS registration through the IASME Consortium. This was achieved through a rigorous application process including a ‘hands-on’ technical audit.

Thanks must go out to the staff involved as well as our IT partner.

The accreditation provides our current valued clients and future clients peace of mind that we take cyber security seriously.

HME PROUD TO SPONSOR SUNDERLAND CC

HME are proud to announce that we have sponsored Sunderland Cricket Club for the 2025 season.

Formed in 1808 and moving to leafy Ashbrooke in 1887 Sunderland Cricket Club has a long and illustrious history.

A founder member of the Durham Senior League North in 1890, Sunderland went on to win the breakaway Durham Senior League Championship on eighteen occasions.

The club joined the newly formed North East Premier League (NEPL) and won the title in its inaugural season of 2000.

Sunderland CC has men’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th teams playing in the NEPL and a ladies 1st team playing in the Durham Women’s T20 softball league. Plus seven junior teams playing at U9, U11, U13, U13 girls softball, U15, U18 & U19 level in the Durham Cricket League. Senior, ladies and junior coaching sessions take place indoors/outdoors throughout the year.

HME’S RECENT CHARITY DONATIONS

Like many businesses, we have a small tuck shop in our office which has proved very popular. It was decided that the proceeds of the tuck shop should be donated to charitable causes, some of which have special connections to our staff.

Recent beneficiaries have been the British Heart Foundation, Tiny Lives Special Care Babies and Parkinsons UK Sunderland Branch who have each received £100.00.

HME WIN NEW WORK AT YORKSHIRE HISTORIC HOUSE

Following the successful delivery of an important church project in Darlington town centre, Humphrey M&E Consultants are pleased to announce a further project with Knox McConnell Architects.

Epworth Old Rectory dates to 1709 and is the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley, founders of Methodism. This interesting project will include refurbishment of outbuildings to provide office accommodation humidity-controlled space for storage of artifacts.

MECHANICAL DIRECTOR DAVE SMITH RETIRES

After some 49½ long years in the industry both on ‘the tools’ and in Public and Private-Sector design offices, Dave Smith retired from his Director role in November 2024.

Dave amassed a wealth of experience in all sorts of project types, and after joining us in 2007 was instrumental in helping Humphrey M&E Consultants gain an excellent reputation in defence-sector work around Britain.

Dave’s contribution to the business will be sorely missed, but we all wish him a very happy and healthy retirement.

DONATION TO GATESHEAD FOODBANK

Here at Humphrey M&E Consultants we’re always looking for ways to give back to the community.

Following a short appeal to staff, Director Steve Caithness took a massive 100kg of food over to Gateshead Foodbank. The food was gratefully received, and should help to make a real difference over the festive period to those in genuine need.

FURTHER CUSTODIAL SECTOR APPOINTMENTS

We are delighted to report a series of new appointments for design work in the custodial sector with Amey Justice. Amey’s current contract, which will run until March 2026, is worth up to £430m and will see them continue with FM delivery across 61 prisons.

These recent appointments cover works across the North of England in areas such as cell reclaim, workshop and shower refurbishments.

SUPPORT FOR TREE PLANTING

Humphrey M&E Consultants are pleased to announce that we’ve made a donation to the National Trust tree planting scheme to reflect our commitment to the natural environment.

Tree planting helps to address climate change by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere.

The National Trust have an ambitious plan to plant and establish 20 million trees by 2030 and we’re delighted to play our part.

MIKE MALT PROMOTED TO MANAGING DIRECTOR

We’re delighted to announce that Mike Malt has been recently promoted to Managing Director of Humphrey M&E Consultants.

Mike has a background in Electrical Engineering and brought a wealth of experience to the company when he joined as a Principal Electrical Engineer in 2019.

The rapid rise to his current role reflects Mike’s talents in both Engineering and Management.

EXCITING NEW APPOINTMENTS IN SCOTLAND & NORTHERN IRELAND

We are very pleased to announce our appointment by a major FM provider in partnership with Convery Prenty Shields Architects in various educational establishments across Scotland and Northern Ireland. The work is mixed, ranging from surveys to full M&E design depending on the specific task.

We look forward to applying our problem-solving capabilities and expertise on more projects as part of our Client’s crucial FM role.

STEVE BRADLEY RETIRES

After some 40+ long years in the industry both on site and in the design office, Steve Bradley retired from full time work in July 2024.

He’s worked as a member of the electrical design team at Humphrey M&E Consultants since March 2021 and brought with him a wealth of Electrical Engineering experience.

We’ll all miss Steve’s dry sense of humour and amusing anecdotes about his time in the industry. We won’t miss Steve’s countdown to retirement that started around Christmas 2023!

We all wish Steve a happy and healthy retirement, no doubt full of golf and DIY.

VIVO SWIMMING POOL PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION

We are pleased to report that work is almost complete at an MOD site in Warwickshire, performing vital services including the Defence Medical Services Centre of Excellence.

The project features replacement of the entire swimming pool ventilation system, including a new externally-mounted Dantherm AHU and a distinctive transparent supply duct system manufactured by ATC. This exposed duct solution overcame a few challenges, not least the presence of bats in the roof void!

Humphrey M&E Consultants compiled the full design package including surveys and civil and structural works for VIVO Defence Services. Our solution will vastly improve both the internal pool environment and access to the plant for inspection and maintenance.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BETHAN ROBERTSON

A huge ‘well done’ to our very own Bethan Robertson who has completed her Building Services Engineering degree course at Leeds Beckett University.

One of only a handful awarded First Class Honours, Bethan has put in many hours of hard work and deserves hearty congratulations for her efforts.

In recognition of her achievement, Bethan has been promoted to the grade of Intermediate Engineer. We look forward to her continuing her valuable contribution to the team.

STAND BY YOUR BEDS! BARRACKS PLANT REPLACEMENT DESIGN UNDERWAY

We’re delighted to announce further work with MITIE FDIS. The design work is progressing well on the first phase of a scheme on a prominent MOD site on the Firth of Forth in Scotland.

The replacement plant will provide highly efficient space heating and domestic hot water for showering in five separate accommodation buildings constructed in the 1970s for Junior Ranks.

We’re happy to be contributing to the MOD’s drive towards zero carbon, whilst keeping all-important hot water flowing.

HME DISPLAYS MORE FOOTBALL PROWESS

HME managed to assemble a fine body of players together for a seven-a-side match against Greenleaf Sustainable Energy.

It was an enjoyable game all round, although the exact score is a mystery.

Thanks to Joe Collins at Greenleaf Sustainable Energy for arranging the game – we think a re-match might be on the cards!

EXCITING NEW APPOINTMENT WITH A MAJOR HOUSEBUILDER

HME are pleased to announce our appointment by a Northumberland-based house builder for M&E design duties for the latest phase of their exciting new development in South Tyneside.

This will be the third phase of a successful scheme in conjunction with another developer and sees the redevelopment of a key part of the river front at South Shields. This development is an exciting mix of stylish high specification houses and apartment blocks.

U10 CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS

As sponsors of Westerhope United FC Juniors, Under 10 Whites, who play in the Northumberland Football Leagues – Humphrey M&E Consultants are extremely pleased to hear the news that the team recently managed to clinch the U10 Championship league title!

 The lads finished the season with 14 wins in a row and remained unbeaten throughout, which is an incredible achievement we congratulate them on and remain proud to support grassroots football in the North East.

The owners of the business have always been open-minded in determining the best strategy for growth.

When the Management Board found themselves at a crossroads in 2023, employee ownership was one of the options on the table. After careful consideration, the move to an Employee-Owned Trust was decided as the right path as it secured the future of the business, encouraged employee engagement, and offered the potential to reward all employees for their hard work. HME COMPLETE FURTHER MOD WORKS IN WESTERN SCOTLAND

We’re happy to announce completion of design work on two projects for Mitie FDIS on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Mitie is carrying out the initial £160 million contract to provide maintenance work, repairs, servicing, and hard FM works in Scotland and elsewhere.

We’ve risen to a few challenges in connection with the capacity of the existing site infrastructure through innovative plant selection, whilst still meeting the Client’s tight deadlines.

HME WELCOMES OUR NEW DIRECTORS

HME are delighted to announce the promotion to Director for our existing staff members Sam Goodall, James Johnson, Mike Malt and Steve Caithness.

They will sit alongside Michael Bainbridge and Dave Smith on the main board of Directors, bringing a diverse range of skills and experience.

This is an exciting new phase in the history of the company, founded some 38 years ago by Jack Humphrey.

THE GRAND ULEV OPENING CEREMONY

Opening ceremony of an MoD sites new set of ULEV charging points, delivered by the Humphreys design team.  Only one of many installations that HME are working on to provide the MoD nationally with an electric vehicle charging network!

MULTIPLE DESIGNS DELIVERED FOR AN EAST YORKSHIRE SITE

HME are pleased to have delivered several design packages at a busy site in East Yorkshire. These included a new Dental Suite and a number of boiler replacements and air conditioning refurbishments in critically important buildings.

Following close liaison with our valued Client and the on-site maintenance team, we led a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the design packages on time and to budget.

The Dental Suite project is one of a number being undertaken in the North of England and involves close co-ordination with specialist equipment manufacturers to ensure smooth project delivery.

We hope to continue our successful partnership with this key Client during 2024 as the upgrade work on this site and others in the region continues.

NORTH TYNESIDE CHRISTMAS APPEAL

North Tyneside Council do a fantastic job of supporting families that are less fortunate and we are delighted to have assisted them with making Christmas as enjoyable as possible for tenants and residents across North Tyneside.

We are completely overwhelmed by the donations we received from our colleagues and would like to say a huge thank you to all involved. Whether that was donations, support or delivering the van load of goodies.

LIVIN’ ON A SPARE

After a very busy year for HME, we had a well-deserved team night out at Lane 7 in Newcastle. We enjoyed some food & drinks alongside a couple of very competitive games of bowling & darts. What a great night had by all 😊

HANGAR REFURBISHMENT WELL UNDERWAY!

HME and our multidisciplinary partners responded to our valued client to deliver the complex design of a multi-million-pound refurbished aircraft hangar in just 16 weeks. We continue to work closely with the construction team, and we’re delighted to confirm that the refurbishment is well underway, on programme and on budget.

On Friday 22 September we took part in a 5-a-side football tournament at the Beacon of Light, Sunderland.

Revitalising Sunderland Civic Centre with Countryside Partnerships North East

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to continue our successful relationship with Countryside Partnerships North East (Formerly Vistry Partnerships) on Phase 2 of the Civic Centre Regeneration in Sunderland City Centre. This development is part of a wider plan to construct 7,000 new homes across the city by 2030.

Following demolition of the iconic 1960s Civic Centre building, the flagship project will comprise the construction of 265 new homes including 4No. new residential blocks.

Welcome to our New Home in South Tyneside

Humphrey M&E Consultants are pleased to advise that following our move in early April, we’re settling in nicely to the new premises in Boldon Business Park.

We project managed various refurbishment works to ensure the new premises met all our operational needs, and now have two floors of high-quality office space in which to serve our many valued clients.

The staggered moves from our old Backworth and Durham Offices went very smoothly, thanks to extensive in-house planning and lots of cooperation from the staff! Read more…

HME GO INTERNATIONAL !! 😊

We are delighted to be working again with Glasgow-based Architect Convery Prenty Shields on an exciting new-build two-storey Nursery and Early-Years centre in Lenzie near Glasgow.

The centre will be built to the high profile end-users’ technical specification and will feature high-efficiency air source heat pumps serving underfloor heating and domestic hot water.

Heat recovery ventilation will be used in the majority of the rooms. The building will feature passive solar shading and the electrical power will be supplemented with a large roof-mounted photovoltaic array.

All the building services systems will of course be designed and installed with the safety of the young users in mind. Read more…

HMP BOILER PLANT REPLACEMENT M&E DESIGN WORKS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey plc on heating boiler and domestic hot water plant replacement works at a number of HMP establishments.

When undertaking initial site surveys, it was often found that the existing ageing boilers suffer from regular breakdowns, are less efficient than modern equivalents, are beyond economic repair as parts become obsolete and therefore required urgent replacement.

In each instance Humphrey M&E Consultants have undertaken Low and Zero Carbon Technology feasibility studies to determine the most energy efficient and sustainable solutions to help reduce MOJ establishment energy costs and therefore contribute to carbon savings. This included close engagement with the Client project delivery and site maintenance teams. Read more…

HMP SHOWER REFURBISHMENT M&E DESIGN WORKS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey plc and JYM Partnership on the refurbishment of shower facilities under the Capital and Decency Funding Programmes at multiple HMP establishments.

A number of the existing shower facilities were found to be of inadequate standard, with many experiencing mould growth and insufficient ventilation. The high level scope was to provide the maximum number of cubicle shower outlets for the given space and to comply with the MOJ Property Directorate Technical Standards.

All specified items were suitable for use within establishments including the use of anti-ligature fittings, fixtures, security rated grilles and louvres. Read more…

NORTH TYNESIDE CHRISTMAS APPEAL

As we head towards Christmas our thoughts move toward those families that are less fortunate, especially those that may find themselves struggling for food or presents to open on the special day. Some things that many of us take for granted.

HME have contributed several food hampers and sundry goods to North Tyneside Christmas Appeal who support ‘Looked after Children’, local food banks and VODA’s Good Neighbour Project.

UNEXPECTED BUT PLEASANT VISITORS AT HME

Humphrey M&E Consultants found themselves with five unusual visitors.  Five local sheep had made their escape from the local School and found themselves at Humphrey M&E Offices in Backworth.  The sheep were extremely friendly and didn’t cause any issues and staff ensured that the sheep were kept safe until they were reunited with their owner.

Humphrey M&E Consultants are proud to be involved in the drive for Net Carbon Zero on a military estate with the completion of carports with Solar PV and intelligent 20 bay Electric Vehicle Charging.

Backworth Clean Team are a group of local residents who have teamed up to address the issues of litter and fly tipping in the beautiful historic village of Backworth and surrounding area.
