MINISTRY OF JUSTICE PROJECTS
HMP Shower Refurbishments at various sites
The existing showering facilities were of inadequate standard. The scope therefore was to provide the maximum number of cubicle shower outlets for the given space and to comply with the MOJ shower specifications.
Where applicable, all relevant MOJ Property Directorate Technical Standards were adhered to. All specified items were suitable for use within establishments including the use of anti-ligature fittings, fixtures, security rated grilles and louvres.
It was the MOJ intention to strive for sustainable development and introduce energy saving devices in all upgraded related refurbishment. Energy saving devices were actively introduced in to the projects as part of the design in all cases, including the likes of heat recovery, LED lighting and occupancy sensing.
The projects posed a series of challenges to the design in respect to the spatial requirements of the new ventilation plant and equipment that were needed to be installed within existing limited services voids and cupboards. Generally, the new ventilation plant and equipment were larger and needed more space due to improved performance compliance requirements.
Associated electrical connections, controls and power wiring were also designed as part of the projects.
