HMP BOILER PLANT REPLACEMENT M&E DESIGN WORKS
Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey plc on heating boiler and domestic hot water plant replacement works at a number of HMP establishments.
When undertaking initial site surveys, it was often found that the existing ageing boilers suffer from regular breakdowns, are less efficient than modern equivalents, are beyond economic repair as parts become obsolete and therefore required urgent replacement.
In each instance Humphrey M&E Consultants have undertaken Low and Zero Carbon Technology feasibility studies to determine the most energy efficient and sustainable solutions to help reduce MOJ establishment energy costs and therefore contribute to carbon savings. This included close engagement with the Client project delivery and site maintenance teams.
Where gas-fired boilers have proved the only viable solution, the specified boilers are ready for a 20% hydrogen blend and it is stated by the manufacturer that they will be certified for 100% hydrogen. This proposal fulfills the requirements of MOJ Sustainability Guidance.
However, where possible we have looked to identify the opportunity to install high temperature air source heat pumps, scaled to suit existing electrical infrastructure and space limitations. This can be utilised to pre-heat water via a thermal store, thus reducing the load required from the fossil fuelled plant.
The Autodesk Revit parametric 3D software platform was utilised for producing fully co-ordinated M&E object based design models to ensure compatibility with other design team members, installation Contractors and relevant supply chain partners.
